Mike and Claudia Etze spent 15 years searching for the perfect vineyard sites and in the year 2000 they purchased a plot of land in Waikari, where they’ve now been creating truly remarkable, world rennowned wines for 20 years. In 2017 Steve Smith and Brian Sheth realised their own dream of creating wine together and were honoured to take on the legacy of Pyramid Valley. Their philosophy remains very much holistic, using biodynamics in the vineyards and following natural principles in the winery, using indigenous yeasts, natural fining and minimal filtration. Aiming to produce wines that truly reflect their place in the world.Â
Aged in French oak barrels (20% new) for 12 months this is a great example of North Cantebury Chardonnay. Lots of citrus and pear on the nose with an underlying savoury complexity. There’s plenty of vibrant, bright fruit on the palate, the texture and weight perfectly balanced with the taut acidity.
