This Verdejo from PITA pushes the norm for Rueda. From the town of Valladolid, Further South within the region and therefore on more chalky soils, but still at high altitude. Emilio’s Verdejo displays minerality alongside its fruity and floral aromas. It’s fresh, fruit forward, full of passionfruit and grapefruit and there’s plenty of fresh acidity to balance the natural weight of the grape variety. 

A wonderful aperitif, with summer salads, or maybe some roast chicken. Especially for those looking for an alternative to Sauvignon Blanc!

For me, this really shows what Rueda Verdejo is all about. Soft, almost floral, delicate and understated but really beautiful. Focused freshness and complexity. A wine you just want to keep enjoying.

Bodegas Pita are an Organic, family run, single estate (all grapes are from their own vineyards) headed up by winemaker Emilio Pita.

Emilio is a young winemaker who began his training in Bordeaux, taking inspiration from the underrated whites of the region. Emilio has also picked up a ‘thing-or-two’ working at some big-name outfits in Australia and New Zealand too! He returned home to Rueda with a belief and evangelism for his Verdejo vines, armed with a strong belief that great whites are possible with Verdejo in Rueda.

Grapes are manually harvested and sorted. After fermentation the wine stays on its fine lees for 4 months with a daily battonage. During both the skin-contact maceration and the settling of the juice after pressing, the vinification is carried out according to the analytical profile of each individual batch so that the very best of grapes is brought out at each stage of the process without jeopardizing all the good work put in during the vine growing season.
